You get to chose your preferred unit of measure for length and for area.

UNITS DISPLAY OPTIONS

This setting determines the units of measure given for length and area.  The units for length will be used in the scale graphic and the measurement of lines and paths given in the bottom status box.  Both units of length and area will be used in the What's This window.
