When you have provided your pointnodes with an attribute field for storing URLs (Uniform Resource Locators), you may store absolute links or relative links in that field. (If you don't know about setting up an attribute field for URLs, see Edit Link Sources.) If you store relative links in the URL field, and you want to be able to use those links from within XViewSDTS, you need to tell XViewSDTS the base location that the relative links are relative to.
If you will be exporting a map as an HTML document, any relative links should be relative to the directory in which you store the HTML file. That is the directory that you should use for your base directory.
What this doesn't do: Setting your base directory has no effect on the HTML documents that you export. This only affects your ability to test your links by clicking on the pointnode symbols from within XViewSDTS.
Choose Link Formation from the Edit menu to open the Edit Link
Formation window.
Initially the base directory is set to one of the the following:
If you your relative links will be relative to another directory,
point to the text box and change it.
Whenever you export an HTML file, the base directory may be
automatically set to the directory to which you exported the file. So
if you save various HTML files in various directories, the directory
will be updated with no need for you to come back to this window and
change it manually. This is the default behavior. If you don't want
it to be automatically changed, you may disable auto updating by
clicking the Auto Update toggle button.
When you are happy with your choices, click OK.
